Ali Campbell scheduled to perform tonight at WCMF

Legendary Ali Campbell of the UB40 band will take the stage this evening when the fifteenth edition of the World Creole Music Festival gets underway at 8pm at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Roseau.

Ali Campbell whose birth name is Alistair Ian Campbell is a solo artist, songwriter and was the lead singer of the UB40. UB40 is a British reggae band who according to Wikipedia is a “British reggae band formed in 1978 in Birmingham. The band has placed more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, and has also achieved considerable international success. One of the world’s best-selling music artists, UB40 has sold over 70 million records”.

Executive Marketing Officer of the Dominica Festivals Commission Leroy “Waddicks” Charles says everything is in place for the show tonight.

“Everything is working out well for tonight; we will have Kolobarst of Martinique who sings traditional music. After that we will be having Ali Campbel the legendary singer of UB40 who will sing several songs of the UB40 including “Red, red wine” and all the other songs which have made him popular. We have the New Generation Grammacks featuring Jeff Joseph; they will be there with us tonight as well as Karmonik for the first time in Dominica. This is a group which features the music of Haiti including the new generation Compas and WCK; the great creators of Bouyon music tonight,” he said.

Charles also invites all visitors and the general public to come to celebrate with the Domincia Festivals Commission this evening.

“We are inviting everyone to come to the festival, it is our fifteenth anniversary and we are inviting all the visitors who are on island to come to celebrate with us.
