Dominican plant pathologist passes on

A plant pathologist and former banana official who worked in several Caribbean islands including Dominica has died.

Dr. Henry Fagan who worked with the Windward Islands Banana Growers Association (WINBAN) which is now called Windward Islands Banana Development and Exporting Company (WIBDECO) succumbed to his illness at his home last night.

According to his son, Anthony Fagan, his father took ill about three months ago, after he fell in his yard.

He remembers his father as a “very dedicated” individual who was a disciplinarian.

Meanwhile his sister Jacinta, Dominica’s 2011 Carnival Queen said she will remember her father for his dedication to his work and his love for God and his family.

“He was a disciplinarian who took his work very, very seriously as most people will remember him for his dedication to his study, to his research, how he was able to help not just in Dominica but more in the Caribbean you know in agriculture. He was a strong person, a strong catholic, strong disciplinarian and he will be missed dearly”.

She said further, “He taught us to believe in ourselves and to always focus on God first and to just work diligently in whatever you pursue”.

Dr. Fagan died at the age of seventy-six (76) and is survived by his wife Gistine Fagan, son Anthony Fagan and daughter Jacintha Fagan.
